Mounting for the Baseplate can be done in several different ways.
If mounting on a Hobie tube (Hrail), the square and round tube clamp work very well.
If you have a track system that uses T nuts, then select the sub plate with T nuts.
And finally if you have a flat spot and wish to just mount directly to the kayak, the sub plate works best.
These mountings allow for the baseplate to be quickly removed using 2 thumbscrews.
If you intend to use a Ram Ball set to mount the baseplate, you need no mounting at all and can just secure the Ram Ball to the bottom of the baseplate directly.Â
The baseplate is the part that holds the downrod. It is attached to the mounting above.
Most common is an 8 inch baseplate. Consider the drawing below when selecting a baseplate:
Sub plate mountings are 4 inches. Allow sufficient span to get the downrod out over the water.
Downrods support all scanning sonars.
